http://www.bp-Outdoors.comBlue Spring State Park located in Orange City, FL features more than 2,600 acres including the largest natural clear water spring on the St. Johns River. Blue Spring is a designated Manatee Refuge and the springs are closed to swimming during Manatee season, mid-November through March. The spring area was originally the home for Native Americans. In 1766 it was visited by Colonial American botanist John Bartram, and in 1856 it was settled by the Louis Thursby family. The Thursby house, built in 1872, remains standing. The spring´s crystal clear, 73 degree water can be enjoyed by swimmers, snorkelers, and certified scuba divers with a partner. The river is popular for fishing, canoeing, and boating. The park has plenty of picnic areas and a hiking trail. For overnight stays, air-conditioned cabins, a full-facility campground and primitive campsites are available.

Oct 9, 2011 - As a child, I remember my family living on our boat at this beautiful wonderful magical spot. It was a time of great mystery and really spending quality time with my brother and sisters. We would actually back then swim with the manatee and river otters, lots of blue crab and petrofied sharks teeth left there from the prehistoric time. How fantastic to have cool parents that we were allowed to have that bohemian lifestyle.Bart
